Archive for the ‘Mysticism’ Category

by Philip PeglerHidden Beauty of the Commonplace

This lovely book is based on the life, learning and developing philosophy of Clare Cameron, one of the early members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and an acquaintance of Aleister Crowley. She was also, for ten years, the editor of the Buddhist magazine, The Middle Way, and much of the work quoted here comes from her insightful editorials.

Clare Cameron was, as the book jacket says, “a gifted English mystic and nature poet”, who “challenged her readers with a fundamental question that is as vital and relevant now as it was in her own day. What is the true meaning of freedom?” The answers she gives to this question, discovered along the path of her own seeking after truth, are both deep and subtle, and as such difficult to put into words. She and her biographer manage this impressively well, and the quotations from her letters, poems and articles are beautiful in their direct simplicity.

Though organised along unconventional lines – the various parts document the development of threads of her history and philosophy, rather than following the course of her timeline – this is a wonderfully gentle book that will lift the spirits and the vibration of all who read it.

A beginner’s guide to Eastern Spirituality. 5 DVD set.

Going Nowhere

Going Nowhere

by Dr. Lorenzo da Costa

This is a series of 5 DVDs, four lectures in the old fashioned sense of the word – as they are non interactive, you are a passive listener/viewer; and one account of Dr da Costa’s experiences and personal journey.

The first lecture (45 minutes) is on meditation and the various slides give visual backing to the background soundtrack which discusses consciousness, awareness and meditation with comparison and contrast between East and West. Being ‘Here and Now’ is seen as a central theme and the explanation for practising meditation is that it keeps us in the Here and Now and lessens chronic anxiety in this way. Dr. da Costa does not explain how to meditate, he suggests Internet links for this, but he does discuss in brief the various ways to practice meditation. He also cautions that it really takes about 10 years to get anywhere in the practice of meditation.

The second lecture (55 minutes) is a comparison and contrast between mysticism in the East and West and he particularly contrasts theology and mysticism, through the traditions of the Judeo/Christian versus the Vedic traditions. He details the Path of Yoga and defines Karma and Reincarnation.

The third lecture (40 minutes) looks at orthodox and complementary medicine. He considers transpersonal approaches to therapy in some detail, describing the theories from Freud, Jung and Rogers to Assaglioli, Weiss and Seigman.

The fourth lecture (30 minutes) introduces a selection of books/authors that Dr. da Costa believes are important for those who are interested in these issues to read.

In his journey DVD, Dr. da Costa describes who he is and where he comes from. He was a doctor in London, but he now works alongside general medicinal practice. He has turned to being a scholar of epistemology and it is this viewpoint that guides the lectures.

This set of DVD’s is designed for beginners to the field of Eastern Spirituality as compared to Western Spirituality. It gives definitions of a range of topics covered in this field and ideas of where to look further for information – it is more of a map through the field than an exploration of the field itself. It would appeal to someone who needs pointers as to the best sources of knowledge of meditation techniques, mysticism and transpersonal approaches to therapy. It is an overview of the best places to look for further knowledge of these topics.

Produced for Jacqui Meadows of Spiritual SojournsUnicorn Magic

Unicorns bring magic into our lives. Coming from the same realm as the Angels they work on our higher consciousness and remind us of our connection to Source. Unicorns bring playfulness back into our lives, while dispelling the monsters within … those old thought forms that we carry subconsciously as negative programming through fear, and later as we grow up, cynicism about life. The Unicorn Collection invites you to receive very powerful healing especially in times of soul loss or where you have given your power away through difficult emotional situations in your life.

This beautiful collection offers three powerful meditations:

Unicorn Magic is the first guided visualisation. It invites you to explore the magic and alchemy in your life, i.e. what needs transmuting from lead to gold?

The second CD is called Unicorns in the Mist. This instrumental music meditation brings the gentle healing essence of the Unicorns close to you on the earth plane. This CD can be used for humans, horses and especially children in the home – notice the magic in your life when using this CD particularly when in Mother Nature as you connect with her. See the beautiful healing orbs as they bounce into your life.

The third and last of this trio is called Unicorn Enchantment. It’s guided visualisation invites you into the world of the unicorns. The dimension of angels and unicorns brings deep healing and soul retrieval into your life, and dispels all negativity within the aura. This is a powerful CD which takes the listener into an enchanting journey where unicorns live.

I loved receiving these three CD’s. One should take time out to enjoy them as they are an hour long each, parts of which are instrumental. The music is powerful yet relaxing. It is like a story in itself, taking you on a journey. The violin brings inner peace and the piano chords add deep relaxation. Tinkling sounds bring a sense of magic and enchantment. The voice guiding the meditations is pleasant and softly spoken. I did need to wear headphones as the music is a bit loud compared to the spoken meditation. Nonetheless this made the music really seep in helping let go of all that surrounded me and move into a deep alpha state.

I loved the first guided meditation where 12 unicorn guides bring rainbow light to your energy field, after which you are guided into a forest by Merlin himself to meet your Unicorn. After meeting your Unicorn it carries you away on its wings of light! The instrumental CD is lovely to play on the background during healing work and I will use it when doing my readings and making my sculptures. I am sure it will inspire me to make more unicorns. I will leave the third CD as a surprise. Suffice it to say it felt like a deeply healing and balancing CD to me.

By Stewart PearceThe Angels of Atlantis

With a sub-title like this one – Twelve Mighty Forces to Transform Your Life Forever – you would expect this book to pack quite a punch. And it does. Stewart Pearce has long been known in the Mind Body Spirit arena for his sound healing work and for his other books, which include The Alchemy of Voice and The Heart’s Note. There is also a deck of oracle cards which accompanies the book under review, which presumably also utilise the stunning illustrations of each Archangel’s energy signature by Richard Crookes.

Atlantis is, for many, an old wives’ tale, a legend with no historical basis, yet many books, workshops etc are now available to help us connect with the energy of this very ancient civilisation. In his Prologue, Stewart Pearce tells us that ‘my intention … is not to create mystique but rather to connect the reader with that part of their psyche that resonates deeply with the notion of Atlantis, and the archetypal depth of human nature’.

In this book, the author connects for us the names and functions of the High Priests and Priestesses of Atlantis, and equates them with the energies of the twelve mightiest Archangels, each of whom has a chapter to him/herself. Each is also connected with a colour, an aroma, and a meditation to help the reader to a personal experience of the energies of that Archangel, as well as giving other information to help you better understand that energy, including a story which he feels illustrates the power of the Archangel.

Mention is also made of the geographical area of the world where the angel’s energies were taken by the relevant High Priest/ess at the fall of Atlantis and the effects this had on the local population. Metatron, for instance, is equated with Amun, who took his followers to Central Mexico and became ‘the great god Quetzlcoatl’. His energy also spread to Greece, where it took on the feminine role of Gaia, while in Egypt it became Amun-Ra, personified in the body of Pharaoh.

Values and questions to help connect with the energy are given for each angel, and a prayer ends each ‘angel story’, which the reader is encouraged to adapt to their own situation. There is so much to take in that this book is best read in short passages, and if you were to do more than one exercise in one sitting, you may well find your mind expanding out of your ears!

Short, informative, and powerful, this book is one that every lover of angelic energies or enquirer into the Atlantean legacy will want to own and read.

by Cheryl Yambrach RoseArt Through The Eyes of the Soul

This oracle deck is a vehicle of great power through which you may access the Mythic beings and Divine entities that inhabit sacred sites and spaces. Deep insights and profound answers are hidden within the paintings.

If you ask, they will provide personal intuitive guidance for you as well as a deep insight and profound answers. Meditating on a card image connects you into the energy field of the location where the painting was conceived. You become the Weaver of your own fate by tuning into your higher self and allowing that spontaneous connection to answer your question or suggest advice. No intermediary need be involved, and your own self-empowerment will result. The box contains 52 gilded cards of original oil paintings with a 1112 page guidebook.

I was very excited to receive these beautiful, artistically made cards. The set is very Magical, and connects one deeply to the sacred sites and the magical part of one’s inner being. I absolutely loved the connection to sacred places that I hold dear to my heart such as the Glastonbury Tor, the Chalice Well and the Fairy Glen in Wales. Various influences can be found in the cards, such as sacred sites from all over the world, goddesses, divine beings and angels.

When picking a card for the readers of Paradigm Shift, I received “Anastacia and the Rising Cedars of Russia” and the card was titled Plant the Seed of a New Template.

This card shows is it is no longer an obligation to follow the dictates of society. It is time to go against the grain. Everything we need to succeed is within us.

This set is a must have for all those who love the old myths, sacred spaces and enjoy mystical art!

with Seeliana MarchisioReiki Drum

Reiki Drum healing is a healing treatment combining the Shamanic drum with reiki healing.  My initial reaction was “how can the two go together?” so I was amazed how well they do work together!

Celia originally qualified as a music teacher and went on to become a spiritual healer, reiki master and teacher.

After a few formalities, and a few deep breaths to relax, Celia spent about twenty minutes ‘scanning’ me as I lay on the couch by tapping the drum with a continuous beat checking for any blockages or areas that need healing.

The drum appeared to change pitch at appropriate times.  The drumming literally engulfed me, so soothing.

Drumming was followed by a reiki treatment.  The reiki seemed to be somewhat enhanced by the drumming.  I found the whole treatment a very healing and uplifting experience, the session lasted about an hour.

It only came to the UK in 2007 but I am sure it will catch on!

by Tonika RinarJourney Home

According to this book everyone is capable of time travel. We can access history as it really happened, without later exaggeration or bias. We can also heal ourselves by coming to terms with our past lives.

In this book, Tonika escorts you into other worlds and dimensions, explaining her own remarkable experiences with the paranormal, embracing past life regression, ghosts, angel and spirit guides. She also encourages you along your own journey of self-recovery and understanding. A journey in which you can discover your own connection with the Universe and the many different dimensions contained within Creation.

“Journey Home” offers a multitude of insights, and along the way looks at some of the fundamental questions asked by all cultures around the world. Where do we come from? Why are we here? What is the point of our life? What happens when we die?

When I picked this book up, the sub-title made me expect a story-line that would be chronologically followed to reveal the many experiences of the writer. Instead, the book takes you along certain themes of which the author has gained a multitude of experiences and insights over time. The book focuses on angels, archangels, our soul, negative entities and God as well as the astral realms, spirit guides, ghosts, past lives and time travel.

Some of the things she writes about are well known to those of us who have read many spiritual books over time, and they are like a reminder of knowledge already gained. Yet other things were new to me. Tonika has a different view on many historical events as well as on spiritual protection as such in that she writes, there is no such thing as protection from false energies. Tonika writes about discernment, a much needed quality in these times of immense information coming towards us.

Tonika has a special way to discern Divine Will in her life. I feel we each have our own ways for discernment. We each have our own paths to follow and though I enjoyed this book thoroughly and found it very informational, not all within it resonated with my truth and inner being.
